Three people testify against Shahum in court

Three people have testified against 'dangerous' criminal Ibrahim Shahum of Galolhu Cozy today at the Criminal Court. They testified as witnesses to the murder of Mohamed Hussain, 17 of Maafannu Beauty Flower by Shahum near Maaziyaa grounds. The case is still ongoing at court and Shahum is charged with terrorism.

Witnesses delivered their testimonies in a separate room with their voices altered. The first witness revealed that he did not know Shahum before the incident, but that on the day the incident he had seen Shahum near the area the murder occurred and pointed Shahum out from the court room as the man wearing glasses and sitting in the middle of the courtroom.

When asked by the State Attorney if Shahum had possessed a weapon on the day of the incident the witness replied that given it has been long time since the incident  the witness cannot remember exactly but that the statement provided to the Police regarding the case is entirely true.

The witness repeated the same answer when questioned by Shahum’s lawyer Shaheem Ahmed and when provided with the statement, read through it and confirmed that it is the same statement he had given to the Police and every bit of it is true. However the statement was not read out loud in the courtroom.

The second witness claimed to know who Shahum was before the murder and that on the day and time of the murder Shahum was present at the scene and was holding a knife stained with blood. The witness estimated the blade of the knife to be about four inches and the handle to be black.

The witness also testified to seeing an injured young man and also claimed to have seen Shahum standing by the victim’s side and approach the victim twice, but that he did not see Shahum attacking anyone.

The third witness to testify, a woman, said that she did not want to testify at first, however the judge presiding over the case asserted that she had to provide her testimony even if she did not want to and that it is stated so as per Islamic Sharia but that the court will not force her to provide her testimony tailored to its satisfaction and that testimonies are to be provided in complete honesty.

The woman said that she was present at the scene on the day the murder happened but that she didn’t recognize Shahum, and that people claim to have seen Shahum from the scene of the crime and that people claim to have seen Shahum attack someone and that she has heard people claiming that Mohamed Hussain had been murdered by Shahum as well. But she claimed that she had not seen Shahum wielding a weapon.

Concluding the hearing the Judge said that more witnesses are to follow for the next hearing to be scheduled.

Shahum is also being charged with “first degree murder” for the murder of Ahusan Basheer of Seenu Atoll Hithadhoo Varudheege.

Six children are also being charged with the murder of Mohamed Hussain and their cases are ongoing at the Juvenile Court with the final verdict to be delivered next week.
