More than 60 businesses gazetted for GST evasion

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has publicized over 60 names of businesses that have failed to make the Goods and Services Tax (GST) payments, in the government gazette. MIRA has publicized names of businesses for GST evasion while others have been included in the gazette for failing to submit GST statements, including Gan Airport Private Limited.

MIRA detailed that the names of businesses publicized in the gazette are for tax evasions for this year’s third quarter (January-March), and are from Male and Atoll regions.

GST evaders are first publicized in the MIRA website. Following which if payments are still not made, the Authority then details the business in the government gazette. MIRA has also pledged action against those who fail to pay even after they have been made public in the gazette.

As MIRA has publicized the businesses who have failed to make GST payments, many businesses have repeatedly complained of the difficulties faced in making tax payments to MIRA.

To that end, one of the complaints include the failure of MIRA to provide items to record sales of businesses as stated by the Authority prior to the introduction of GST.
