The Audit report of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) and the Local Government Authority (LGA) for 2011 has been released last week. No major violations or issues were highlighted in either report.
Noted as a violation by MBC is that the commission failed to deposit MVR68,313 earned in license fees to the commissionâ™s public bank account and had stored the money in the commissionâ™s safe. The Finance Act stipulates that money received by government authorities is to be deposited if the money is obtained within due time.
It was highlighted in LGAâ™s report that the office had not created regulations as per the Decentralisation Act and had also failed to establish Women Empowerment Committees in the cities and islands, the establishment on which the Auditor General has provided advice.
