Most Maldivians in foreign jails for drug related offences: Foreign Ministry

Foreign State Minister Hassan Saeed Thursday revealed that 13 Maldivians have been jailed abroad where most people have been imprisoned for drug related offences. Saeed detailed that apart from three people, the rest have been jailed in foreign countries for investigations into illegal narcotics possession and trafficking. According to the State Minister a Maldivian national was in a Hong Kong prison accused of murder.
“Out of the three people, two have been imprisoned for investigations into document forgery. The other person has been jailed for an overstay issue. The rest are imprisoned for drugs possession and trafficking,” Hassan Saeed said.
He stressed that the Ministry was monitoring the wellbeing of the 13 people from time to time in addition to providing consular services to the inmates. Tweet Bookmark Print Badge the Comments!
