Home State Minister Mohamed Fayaz claimed yesterday that Maldives now has the capability to investigate cases of piracy inside the nation's territorial waters. Speaking during the certificate awarding ceremony for the course in âœCrime of Maritime Piracyâ Fayaz stressed that the threats of pirates were now faced by the countries in the Indian Ocean.
âœWith the help of this course cases of maritime piracy can now be investigated in the Maldives. Participants of this course have been taught the way to approach an investigation into piracy and the method of interviewing pirates. Hence we can now probe such cases in the Maldives,â State Minister added.
He highlighted that the Maldives being a small island nation must be more vigilant of the threats posed by pirates. Fayaz admitted the challenges facing the Maldives in patrolling its waters due to the geographical nature of the country.
The four day course was jointly conducted by US Naval Investigation Service and Interpol. Tweet Bookmark Print Badge the Comments! Give badges to the best comments you see!
